In 2012, Dr. Avery earned an AFA in Dance from Compton College where she was also an art professor. After dancing with Faithful Central Dance Company in Los Angeles, she began teaching dance privately, and to adolescents, in LA & NY. Dr. Avery later performed a solo at her own doctoral certification hearing.

In 2012, Dr. Avery earned an AFA in Dance from Compton College where she was also an art professor. Dr. Avery later performed a solo at her own doctoral certification hearing.
Admiring her former foster mother's ability to sew, Dr. Avery re-lit her own passion and secured an MFA in fashion design, specializing in costuming, from The Academy of Art in San Francisco.
She is:

a movement instructor

a member of SAG AFTRA & AEA, and
an independent producer and director
Affectionately known as Broadway for her animated charisma, Broadway has done stand-in, stunt work, features, and failed pilots. These experiences sparked her independent peregrination. Her directing debut, Silenced Dialogues encompasses vicissitudes of black female body-politics in early America. The title birthed out of Professor Lisa Delpit's academic work in which Dr. Avery co-presented at Teachers College's Re-imagining Education conference in NYC.
She has designed costumes for Adrienne Unae's Universe, Black & Brown Theater, The African American Day Parade, Victory, and docu-shorts.
She's voiced online commercials, documentary segments, and is currently voicing her novel, Beyond the Gate. Here is her voice sample.

An international award winning author, Dr. Avery currently has 20 titles, written across genres, awaiting your perusal. Beyond the Gate, her signature novel earned two-finalist awards: one from Readers' Favorite & the other from National Indie Excellence Awards. Her newest Novel, Queen of the South Bronx garnered her semi-finalist status
An international award winning author, Dr. Avery currently has 20 titles, written across genres, awaiting your perusal. Beyond the Gate, her signature novel earned two-finalist awards: one from Readers' Favorite & the other from National Indie Excellence Awards. Her newest Novel, Queen of the South Bronx garnered her semi-finalist status in America's Next Great Author challenge. Due to Covid regulations, she couldn't compete to become a finalist. She has also illustrated two children's books: Black & White Make Gray, but I'm not an Elephant by Lesley Anderson, and Michelle and Misty by Dr. Nicole Elaine Avery (currently in-press)
Dr. Avery earned her BA from The University of Charleston in West Virginia specializing in English Literature & English Education. Utilizing her knowledge of literature, she has spearheaded her own publishing company: Broadway Empire.
An orator since her teens, Dr. Avery uses her gift-of-gab to speak on pressing topics, such as Satanic Ritual Abuse, sexual abuse, abandonment, work place bullying, Black women's bodies, and the arts, to youths and adults.

In 2017, Dr. Avery earned a doctorate degree in Art & Art Education hailing from Columbia University, where she also obtained two masters in art: an MA in Art & Art Education, and an EdM in Interdisciplinary Arts.
The core of her research speaks to the unwitting silencing of Black women given historical constructs solidified through imagery. Aside from her dissertation: The Space between Role and Code of the African American Female Choreographer when in Concert with the Dominant Voice of Society, Dr. Avery penned a journal review for the The End of Men: And the Rise of Women by Hanna Rosen. Additional commentary on issues of silencing reside amongst Dr. Avery's non-fiction book titles.
As a visual artist, Dr. Avery explores spiritual intersections of the human body and cosmic flow... exhibiting her art throughout the United States & Brazil. Recently, she published a table book entitled, Victory in which she face-painted, photographed, and styled/costumed darker hued women in hopes of upending societal norms of beauty.
A consummate award-winning educator, Dr. Avery's amassed almost 30 years of experience in the arts as a facilitator and creative. Additionally, she has supervised the construction of several murals, as well as creative arts installations. in NY & LA.
Employing art practices (art-making, dance, poetry and drama), Dr. Avery assists clients with stress management.
